The story of Dr. Margo Bush and the birth of Legacy Christian University
There are moments in life that look ordinary on the outside but become defining moments in a person’s destiny.
BA Graduate and Former Miss Chick
The story is almost hard to believe.
A young girl from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, who once stood on a stage as Miss Chick, never realizing that decades later she would stand on a different kind of stage—launching a university designed to impact lives around the world.
From a small-town graduate with big dreams...To a pastor’s wife...To a widow rebuilding her life...To an entrepreneur...To a university founder. Every chapter matters in your life.
Every season prepares you for something bigger.
And now, a new chapter begins for this unassuming Broken Arrow graduate.
A New Kind of University Is Born.
For Margo Bush, one of those moments happened years ago while sitting in an office—not a classroom, not a boardroom full of investors, and certainly not during a season where launching a university seemed possible.
Sitting across from a friend who served as Vice President of one of the largest privately owned online universities. As she listened and observed the incredible impact online education was having across the world, something unexpected happened.
Deep within her heart, she heard a still, small whisper speaking: “You are here because one day you will open a university.”
At the time, she was leading a small independent publishing company, rebuilding her life from the loss of her husband of twenty-eight years, and doing everything she knew to do to keep moving forward. The idea of building a university wasn’t in her business plan. It wasn’t written in her goals. It wasn’t even something she felt qualified to dream.
But sometimes God plants a seed long before the season of harvest arrives.
Years before Legacy Christian University would ever have a name, God was already writing the story.
The Assignment She Didn’t See Coming
From ministry leadership, pastoring, entrepreneurship, publishing, business consulting, coaching churches, and helping people discover their God-given purpose—every season was a building block, brick by brick–God was building something.
She had spent years helping people grow spiritually, training entrepreneurs and churches on how to grow successful organizations. She had discovered a passion, especially for helping women business owners understand something she had learned firsthand:
A dream alone is not enough. You need wisdom, strategy, education, and the right tools to build what God has placed inside of you.
Her own journey, taking over their publishing company after the unexpected death of the man she thought she would spend the rest of her life with, had not been easy. Life changed dramatically when she found herself having to step into the business world and learn how to lead their small business and build something sustainable. It was a struggle to say the least, but somehow after self-education and professional coaching, she learned how to grow and prosper.
That experience created a fire inside of her. She knew countless people with God-given dreams that simply lacked the business success principles and education that would change everything in the way they started, grew, and expanded their business.
The world was changing.
Business was changing.
Technology was changing.
And she believed that the way we are educating entrepreneurs is mathematically flawed, and something needed to change.
A Different Kind of University
Why the next generation deserves an education that prepares them to create opportunity—not just find it. "We don't have an employment crisis. We have an education design crisis."
Margo has spent years coaching, counseling, training, and equipping authors, community leaders, small business owners, pastors, ministers, and entrepreneurs on how to grow successful organizations.
After fulfilling a large church project in December 2024, her next steps were to continue to grow her coaching and consulting firm to help more people succeed.
But God had a bigger plan...
The same whisper she had heard years earlier in that university executive’s office began stirring again. This time, the voice of the Lord was very clear. It wasn’t just to build another school.
It was to build a different kind of university. A university that honored God.
A university that prepared students not only academically—but spiritually. A university designed to raise up Marketplace Ministers who understood that their gifts, talents, businesses, creativity, and inventions could become vehicles for Kingdom impact.
Where Purpose Meets Preparation.
Legacy Christian University was born with a mission:
To bridge faith, entrepreneurship, technology, and AI for world impact. To equip students to become world changers and global leaders.
America has thousands of colleges.
Thousands.
But there are just a handful that actually teach students how to build wealth through entrepreneurship from day one.
Instead...We educate people to become employees.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with employment.
America needs teachers.
Nurses.
Engineers.
Scientists.
Doctors.
But what about the people who were born to build?
What about the entrepreneur?
The inventor?
The innovator?
The community leader?
The ministry founder?
The small business owner?
Where do they go to learn?
Dr. Bush believes Legacy Christian University is part of the answer.
“God never intended our gifts and talents to sit unused,” she explains. “He gave people creativity, ideas, inventions, businesses, and callings because He created us for more.
LCU was built to train leaders in Biblical Studies, Entrepreneurship, Technology, and AI—preparing students to influence both ministry and the marketplace.
Not just with information. But through transformation.
God Always Has A Bigger Plan
The official launch of Legacy Christian University, a fully accredited online university, is scheduled for September 2026.
But sometimes God’s got an unexpected move on his chessboard. As preparations were underway, Pastor Dixie Pebworth of God’s Shining Light Church and Dr. Bush began talking about offering LCU to his church members as an on-campus experience. Pastor Dixie had always wanted a university at God's Shining Light, a ministry built to give individuals coming out of addiction and incarceration a second chance.
"What a perfect place to begin," Says Dr. Margo
It’s just like God to begin helping those who need a hand up and provide an opportunity to take the next step of transformation to higher education. In the natural for any organization launching and planning for growth, it makes no sense–but God rarely makes sense to the world's natural system of things.
“I have always wanted a university at GSL for our people,” Pastor Dixie said. “I saw that God was doing something big with LCU, and I wanted to be a part of what the Lord was doing. I desire to continually provide the tools and resources necessary to transform the lives of the people God has called me to reach.”
What happened next confirmed the vision.
More than 40 students stepped forward and signed up to begin their journey of transformation through Kingdom-based higher education.
A university that started as a whisper in an office ten years ago–it has just begun. This was God’s plan all along: years ago, when GSL hired her church coaching firm, Don't Do Church Alone Coaching Firm, to help them expand their reach.
There is a famous Bible story that occurs in which the prophet Elijah is hiding in a cave on Mount Horeb. Fleeing for his life, Elijah is exhausted and deeply discouraged. God tells him to go out and stand on the mountain, where He is about to pass by.
Then a series of spectacular, destructive events unfolds:
Finally, after the fire comes a "still small voice”, often translated as a whisper. Elijah recognizes God's presence, wraps his face in his cloak, and steps out of the cave.
It is a powerful reminder that while God is fully capable of dramatic and spectacular displays of power, He often chooses to reveal Himself and speak in quiet, gentle, and intimate ways. In the most unusual, unexpected, unsuspecting places, He will begin a revival of sorts, because He loves people so much and sees them in need of transformational change.
