The story of Dr. Margo Bush and the birth of Legacy Christian University
There are moments in life that look ordinary on the outside but become defining moments in a person’s destiny.
For Margo Bush, one of those moments happened years ago while sitting in an office—not a classroom, not a boardroom full of investors, and certainly not during a season where launching a university seemed possible.
She was sitting across from a friend who served as Vice President of one of the largest privately owned online universities in the nation. As she listened and observed the incredible impact online education was having across the world, something unexpected happened.
Deep within her heart, she heard a still small whisper speaking:
“You are here because one day you will open a university.”
At the time, nothing like that was even a thought, a goal, or a dream.
“I remember thinking, Lord, I can barely pay my own bills, and besides that, I wouldn't even know how to do that. And besides that, who starts a university,” Dr. Bush recalls.
At the time, she was leading a small independent publishing company, rebuilding her life from the loss of her husband of twenty-eight years, and doing everything she knew to do to keep moving forward. The idea of building a university wasn’t in her business plan. It wasn’t written in her goals. It wasn’t even something she felt qualified to dream.
But sometimes God plants a seed long before the season of harvest arrives.
Years before Legacy Christian University would ever have a name, God was already writing the story.
The Assignment She Didn’t See Coming
Dr. Bush’s journey had been filled with preparation disguised as life experience.
From ministry leadership, pastoring, entrepreneurship, publishing, business consulting, coaching churches, and helping people discover their God-given purpose—every season was a building block, brick by brick–God was building something.
She had spent years helping people grow spiritually as a pastor’s wife, training entrepreneurs and churches on how to grow successful organizations. She had discovered a passion, especially for helping women business owners understand something she had learned firsthand:
A dream alone is not enough. You need wisdom, strategy, education, and the right tools to build what God has placed inside of you.
Her own journey, taking over their publishing company after the unexpected death of the man she thought she would spend the rest of her life with, had not been easy.
After years in ministry, life changed dramatically when she found herself having to step into the business world and learn how to create revenue, lead a company, and build something sustainable.
That experience created a fire inside of her.
She knew there were countless people with God-given dreams who simply lacked the business success principles and education that would change everything in the way they started, grew, and expanded their business.
The world was changing.
Business was changing.
Technology was changing.
And she believed that the way we are educating entrepreneurs is mathematically flawed, and something needed to change.
A Different Kind of University
After faithfully serving as the Children’s Pastor at God’s Shining Light Church, Dr. Bush knew it was time for another transition.
But she didn’t leave an assignment unfinished.
Before stepping away, she spent a year training and equipping the next Children’s Pastor and Director for God’s Shining Light—ensuring the church would continue strong with a prepared leader.
Her next steps were simple...
She would focus on expanding her coaching and consulting firm, helping Kingdom-minded entrepreneurs build wildly successful businesses. Her heart was especially drawn toward helping women-owned businesses grow, create financial security, and fulfill their God-given purpose in the marketplace.
But God had a bigger plan...
The same whisper she had heard years earlier in that university executive’s office began stirring again.
This time, the voice of the Lord was very clear.
It wasn’t just to build another school.
It was to build a different kind of university.
A university that honored God.
A university that prepared students not only academically—but spiritually and practically.
A university designed to raise up Marketplace Ministers who understood that their gifts, talents, businesses, creativity, and callings could become vehicles for Kingdom impact.
Legacy Christian University was born with a mission:
To bridge faith, entrepreneurship, technology, and AI for world impact. To equip students to become world changers and global leaders.
Higher Education for a New Generation
The traditional educational model has left many people asking difficult questions.
How do we prepare students for a rapidly changing world?
How do we equip entrepreneurs, ministry leaders, and innovators with real-world skills?
How do we embrace technology without losing faith?
Dr. Bush believes Legacy Christian University is part of the answer.
“God never intended our gifts and talents to sit unused,” she explains. “He gave people creativity, ideas, inventions, businesses, and callings because He designed them to make an impact.”
LCU was created to train leaders in Biblical Studies, Entrepreneurship, Technology, and AI—preparing students to influence both ministry and the marketplace.
Not just with information. But through transformation.
God Always Has A Bigger Plan
The official national launch of Legacy Christian University, a fully accredited online university, is scheduled for September 2026.
But sometimes God’s got an unexpected move on his chessboard.
As preparations were underway, Pastor Dixie Pebworth of God’s Shining Light Church and Dr. Bush began talking about offering LCU to his church members as a trial.
Pastor Dixie had always wanted a university at GSL.
Could LCU also offer on-campus Biblical studies and marketplace ministry higher education in churches?
Could the vision start with an on-campus group of students who had come out of addiction, incarceration, and homelessness?
It’s just like God to begin with the least of these and provide an opportunity to take the next step of transformation for higher education to his sons and daughters. In the natural or financial investment of beginning an organization, it makes no sense–but God rarely makes sense to the world's natural system of things.
“I have always wanted a university at GSL for our people,” Pastor Dixie said. “I saw that God was doing something big with LCU, and I wanted to be a part of what the Lord was doing. I desire to continually provide the tools and resources necessary to transform the lives of the people God has called me to reach.”
What happened next confirmed the vision.
More than 40 students stepped forward and signed up to begin their journey of transformation through Kingdom-based higher education.
A university that started as a whisper in an office ten years ago had just begun. This was God’s plan all along when her church coaching firm was invited to GSL by Pastor Dixie.
There is a famous Bible story that occurs in which the prophet Elijah is hiding in a cave on Mount Horeb. Fleeing for his life, Elijah is exhausted and deeply discouraged. God tells him to go out and stand on the mountain, where He is about to pass by.
Then a series of spectacular, destructive events unfolds:
Finally, after the fire comes a "still small voice”, often translated as a whisper. Elijah recognizes God's presence, wraps his face in his cloak, and steps out of the cave.
It is a powerful reminder that while God is fully capable of dramatic and spectacular displays of power, He often chooses to reveal Himself and speak in quiet, gentle, and intimate ways. In the most unusual, unexpected, unsuspecting places, He will begin a revival, of sorts, because He loves people so much and sees them in need of transformational change.

To a pastor’s wife...
To a widow rebuilding her life...
To an entrepreneur...
To a university founder.
Every chapter matters in your life.
Every season prepares you for something bigger.
